First off I'm glad you enjoyed the Dont be a victim post and would like to thank you for supporting the site.

Clearly your passionate about the diet which is great. When I say the muscle gains may be negligible that is not to say you cannot get stronger on the paleo diet. The tremendous gains someone might experience while following the diet would be due to their novice training level in terms of adaptation and not so much the diet. So to say you can get a lot stronger on the paleo diet would be a misnomer, because you can technically also get really strong off of a KFC diet to, just because most people training with the paleo diet are so unadapted to the strength training stimulus. Beyond the novice phase though, you will find it difficult to make significant progress into your intermediate stage on the paleo diet.

In my experience in talking to and coaching hundreds of people at this point very few people on the paleo diet actually get 40% of their calories from vegetables. One problem with the paleo diet is there is no largely accepted consensus on these percentages. So in your example you are correct, in reality though it is not how most people follow the diet.

My standards are very high, when I say you wont put on "alot of muscle" with the paleo diet that means you shouldn't look to gain 10-20 pounds of lean mass in a short period of time. It generally doesn't happen.

I am very familiar with Robb Wolf, I've been following him and reading his stuff for years.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, hopefully this cleared some things up for you.

the paleo diet does not advocate eating just "some fruit and some vegetables" as you state. the paleo diet advocates eating MOSTLY vegetables, lean meats (like paleolithic man would have eaten), "some fruit" (which you were correct in stating), and no sugars. A diet that is 40% carbohydrates (vegetables), 30% protein, and 30% fats (with a 1:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3) will cause your body to produce enough insulin to help you get jacked and lean. you are spot on about the nuts as well. eating too many of them will get your omega 6 : omega 3 ratios all out of whack and cause you to feel lethargic and you will perform like crap. to say that your muscle gains will be "negligible" on the paleo diet is completely false. it's like saying that full depth squats are bad for your knees. doing crappy squats are bad for your knees, and doing a crappy version of the paleo diet will cause you to suck. Not that I feel this is a great source, but MuscleMag had a good article a while back ( http://www.musclemag.com/Nutrition-and-Supps/Articles/The-Paleo-Diet-for-Bodybuilders.aspx ). Most of the info in the article came from the infamous Robb Wolf, a pretty smart guy biologically. experience is a great place to speak from. you say you have tried the paleo diet and haven't gotten any stronger. i have tried the paleo nutrition plan and have made immense gains in body composition and performance. you seem to be a pretty smart guy, but maybe something was a little out of whack with the way you were eating. overall, there is some pretty good information in the video, but you have to make the distinction between squatting properly and squatting like some idiot from russia in a youtube video. i loved the don't be a victim post!
